Cagney: My New Roommate

My new roommate moved in on Thursday. She is 22, from Oklahoma and her mother came out with her to help her get set up and settled. The mother flew back to OK today.

Cagney keeps her bedroom door closed all the time. This bothers me, and tonight I said something to her about it. I told her I noticed she's been keeping her door closed since she moved in, and I was wondering if she was a closed door person. I then added I hoped it wasn't making her uncomfortable that I leave my door open most of the time. She said she's just getting acclimated. I said okay, and that she should do whatever makes her most comfortable.

So I am going to continue keeping my door open, and hope that she comes around to my way of thinking. To be honest, it makes the apartment look smaller when doors are closed.

I'll keep you posted on the Cagney Door Situation. I know you're enthralled.

Am I Still Sick?

Early last week I got sick. Then I got fired. Then I got progressively sicker. I am definitely better than when I was at my worst.

However, I am not sure if I am still sick, or just still wearing my watermelon pajamas because I have noplace to go. I am no longer spending romantic nights sleeping with Kleenex, which must be a step in the right direction.

Am I napping because my body is tired from fighting infection or because I'm bored and have nothing to do? Does my throat REALLY hurt?

If I pronounce myself healthy, then I will feel obligated to do all sorts of things, like facing reality by going on interviews, doing errands and working out. In general, being a functioning member of society.

Filling in My Clueless Mother

While I was on the phone with my mother yesterday morning, she mentioned that it's such a shame both her children moved out 4.5 years ago. Ever since we moved out, she says she hasn't felt like she's known the important things going on in the world gossip wise.

Here's what I told her:

- Despite being somewhat pretty, nobody will admit to liking the Bush twins
- Hate Ashlee Simpson. If anyone forward you a petition about her, sign it
- We're rooting for Constantine on American Idol
- We like Scarlett August on Project Runway
- Walmart sucks. It's never ever to be shopped in. Protest going there as if somebody's life depends on it.
- When talking about your children living in SF, do NOT say that we "really like the environment and find that it suits" us. That makes us sound gay. Which we're not. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
- Scarves and ribbons as belts are in, but it's lame. I will not be partaking, so don't send me any ribbons or scarves.

I am so proud of my mother for knowing when she's clueless.
