And You Know What Else I Hate?
My roommate seems to think that taking care of everything here is my job. If we get a notice in our mailbox that says we have a package, 9am gives that notice to me. Even though the package could be for him.
9am thinks cleaning the kitchen means emptying the garbage. And that's all. He thinks cleaning the living room means vacuuming. And that's all. No dusting. No taking all his mail off the dining room table.
Recently I scrubbed down the microwave oven, which had food splatters all over it. Those food splatters were not from me. Every time I go into the kitchen to prepare food, I first have to clean the counters from 9am's crumbs and stains of undetermined origin. When you come over and admire the kitchen floor, please direct all compliments my way, since I'm always the one who cleaned it.
These things frustrate me to no end, and make me even more determined that the next time I move, it will be to a one bedroom apartment. 9am must be my last roommate.
I have never liked having roommates. Maybe I am too old to put up with it at the old age of 32. Maybe I am just not meant to be a roommate person. Whatever the reason, I can not seem to stop looking at studios and one bedroom places.

Did you have these problems with female roommates as well? Because I seriously think that men and women don't have the same perspective on things like cleanliness of a floor or things lying around.
Of course there are men who take way better care of their houses etc than me or other women, but in general they don't seem to see the same things we do.
My hubby for instance is totally great, does equal shares of cleaning etc, but he just doesn't SEE certain things. And I believe that he really doesn't see them and not just decides to ignore them.
The package thing, though, is not explainable (is that a word?).
Yes, I absolutely recall with my first roommate in SF how she managed to make crumbs on the counters just by having cereal for dinner each night.
I don't think I'm THAT clean. You couldn't eat off my floors. I just like them to look like you could if you wanted to.
This is the first male roommate I've ever had, but something that's bothered me with all roommates. Really I am just not meant to live with other people, I think.
i never liked having roomates either, it's tough living with other people. now i live with a husband and two kiddos and all i can say is....it doesn't make it any easier!!! i wish i could get a one bedroom too!! kidding. kind of.
He's an unmarried MALE. Men are like that. We need a wife to "conform" us to the etiquette of cleansliness....
My poor wife has been trying for 16 years... I'm slowly coming around...
