Loose Ends (In My Brain)
- So remember Christian Siriano, on Project Runway? You know, the young gay guy with funky hair? Well, he has a boyfriend, Brad Walsh. I follow Brad on Twitter and read this morning that Christian would like to send some dresses to Michelle. Obama. You know, that woman whose husband is going to be POTUS? Yeah, her. If anyone has a direct connection...
- While I am beyond elated that you know, yes we did, I am having a hard time believing it's really real. I am more excited about this than I was at going to Disney for the first time. And that's not just because I ran into my sixth-grade teacher at Sea World while holding three dead fish to go feed to the dolphins.
- With this elation comes worry. I'm scared of an assassination attempt. Can we donate money to the Secret Service?
- In his acceptance speech, Obama told his daughters he will get them a puppy when they move to the White House. Mr. Obama, please consider me for all your dog-sitting needs. I can provide references.
- Lastly, I'd like to throw out a big what the fuck regarding California's Prop 8. I'm very disappointed. While I know it is not a gracious thing to insult those who think differently, I can't help but feel that people who voted YES must be stupid. I don't say this as an insult, though I know it is one, I say it because I feel surely those people must just not understand what they're saying.
People are BORN gay. It's not a choice. You come out (literally) into the world, and it's just ... inside you. It's not a decision, but an inevitability. Kind of like with hair color. Can you imagine if the bible said anyone with blonde hair should not be allowed to marry? It would be laughed at, and everyone would stand around agreeing that while the bible has some interesting things, clearly it has not kept up with the times. Except not everyone would, and that's just one more example of why I think critical thinking should be taught in public schools.

I couldn't agree with you more reagarding Prop 8. I am so dissapointed in my fellow Californians that voted for this outdated and prejudicial law. It breaks my heart to think of those that cannot fullfil their dream and marry the one they love.
Sad, sad, sad on prop 8!!!
I also hope that the Obama's adopt a dog that needs a home rather than buy a new one. Too many dogs need homes!
You are not the only one happy that Obama was elected. Pretty much everyone here in Canada I know is over the moon. There were even campaign signs on my street.
What I don't get is why there is so many problems with elections there. I saw the line ups and with the machines breaking down on T.V.
We just had a federal election here. It was like 3 months of campaigning, and wham bam, it was over with. The american election was so much more exciting, with all the drama and mudslinging.
We were hoping McCain wouldn't win because he likely would have made a good president, but if he died if office, then Palin would be prez. That thought makes me cringe, lol.
You know what - I don't think it matters whether or not people are born gay, and I know lots of queer women who say that they chose to be queer, for what it's worth. It's still not ok to discriminate based on sexual orientation. It's not like being gay is this awful thing that people are born with and everyone should tolerate. Being queer is awesome! And it is just one of the many ways of being human, and should not be discriminated against. End of story. (Also, end of my rant!)
the queer women you know who "chose to be gay" are deluding themselves in one way or another.
The argument that MOST drives me up the wall is that marriage is for procreation. Shall we outlaw marriage for people who are unable or unwilling to concieve?
Sorry you got your Johnson shot off for your country soldier, no spouse for you.
In the wise words of Whitney from The Hills...Double You Tee Eff! I'm with you on that. Makes me so so sad.
Either way - we watched history be made last night and its something even our generation never thought would happen. So - let's focus on that instead of the hateful bigots who live in CA, FL and AZ.
I'm just surprised there wasn't more of a voter turnout in San Francisco. I heard that only about 50% of registered voters went to the polls.
Funny, Brad - the research on lesbians coming out in the feminist movement says the opposite. There are also some really interesting studies of heterosexual women in which heterosexual women claim that they chose to be heterosexual.
The research on gay men, however, indicates that gay men think of their sexuality as something that is *not* a choice.
There is actually a lot of diversity in how people think about and claim their sexualities. Many of us see an element of choice; many of us do not. That's not politically convenient, but that's how it is.
With you on all your points.
I was listening to an NPR story about MLK's assassination. The night he was shot RFK was to give a speech and the story was about that speech. JFK, MLK, RFK...it does make me scared for him and his family. These are different times and I'm hoping that the sacrifices that generation made in the hopes that THIS might someday be possible...I hope that theirs will be sacrifice enough.
And re. prop 8. I don't know that they're stupid, but I do think it at least partly stems from ignorance.
