If You Want to Help, Put On Your Thinking Cap
Situation: I need to get a typing test. Actually, what I need are the results of a typing test. I have to submit that for a job.
Possible Solution: I have a very good relationship with one of my recruiters. They would totally let me go in if I told them I'd like to brush up on my speed. However, the job I need this for is not law-related.
Problem: How do I get the recruiter's office to let me take a typing test, and walk out with the results (after you take the test, a page prints out saying what your WPM is), without lying, yet also, without letting them know it's for a job that they can't make money from?
I was going to post this question on the job forum on Craigslist, but a huge chunk of Craigslist seems to be broken. WTF, Craig?

Would an online test not be sufficient?
If not, how about signing up with a new temp agency and asking for a copy of the results...you want to compare it with your past tests or some statement like that?
I would hesitate going to a known entity, better to act innocent with a new one.
I was going to ask the same, there are a few online typing tests that I've seen.

Nope. Must be from a typing school or agency, not online. Probably to cut down on having other people take the test for applicants.
Could you just say to the agency you have a good relationship with that you're assembling a portfolio of all your relevant employment documents because you feel it's important for you to have all that stuff in one file, so you'd like to take a copy home of the typing test results, if that's okay?
I think they'd let you keep a copy... for your reference. I'd tell that I'd like to frame it on my wall...?
Hmmm, have you asked the agency that you have a good relationship to send you on any interviews? If not, let them know you are in the market, so you are giving them a chance to make money from your placement. I don't see how its being dishonest to ask for a copy of your results.
Depending on how determined you are to definitely get the test from this agency, you could try simply asking. What I mean is, if you wouldn't take it without their permission, and you won't do it if you have to lie, then basically, the answer is "no, you can't have it," unless you just ask them. Then the answer might be, "sure, ok, you've been a good client and we like you, so you can have a copy of it." So maybe you could just tell them that you need it for another job application, offer to pay them something if you get the job, and see what they say. The worst they will do is say "no," and then you are no worse off than you were before asking. But you have the possibility of "yes," and a clear conscience.
On the other hand, if you are willing to just take it or to lie, then it is possible your chances of actually ending up with are better that way.
