When You're Far You Get Close

Did you ever notice that when you're far from home, if you meet someone also from that same home, you automatically like them due to that common bond, even if had you met them at home the two of you would never have been friends?

No? Just me? Oh, then ... never mind, I guess.

I automatically give anyone from New York a second look. Even if they would have hated me back when we lived there. Even if that's the only thing we seem to have in common. Because I miss New York and love it (and am jealous of the people there, all the people there, even the ones who are miserable being there because they are twitterpated over a guy who's here and are being forced to watch the news all day long).

Will is from New York. Ohmygod, me TOO!
He's even from Long Island. Ohmygod, me TOO!
But he's from the county next to mine. Bummer.
Yeah but he's funny. Ohmygod, me TOO! Wait, I mean, umm...

It's true. I am both twitterpated AND miserable. You wouldn't be so jealous if you were dealing with this godawful, sticky heat and having to watch Nancy Grace all day long.

But, as you know, my love for BeTheWill is strong. You must watch he and Nina's webcast on saturday nights, it's fucking great.

I am twitterpated over the fact that you finally posted something. I feel the same way about New York and people from New York - the feeling's not mutual... I wonder if it's because I'm not from New York nor have I even been in New York proper... I've been to New Jersey... does that count?

Oh my god woman, NO! New Jersey never EVER counts as New York! NEVER! For goodness sake.

Try giving a NYer the finger next time you meet them - it's like throwing a gang sign to let them know you're one of us.

The club where I exercise is full of NYr's. Once I posed the question, "If NY is so F'ing great, why are you all out here?" A room full a changined silence followed.

Ooooh yes, one must be veeeery careful with becoming friends with people just because they're "from home". I made that mistake in Helsinki (one success story as well). Met another Danish girl, our bond was that we loved to smoke. Great. Turns out, she's a skank. I don't use that word lightly. A ho. Ho. For Horrible. Sitting in cafés with her turned out to be the most toe cringing, morality inducing experience ever. Terrible. Ho. Skank. SO glad I don't even know where she lives now.

Long Island rules but Suffolk County is by far the best part of Long Island.

He killed two people, how is that serial killing, that's just murder twice.

Yes, but to listen to these newshead twats go on and on about the serial killings, you would think that he killed more than Gacy and Dahmer combined. NY must be jealous that they haven't had a good one since Berkowitz.

Hi Will!

When we moved from Maryland down to North Carolina, we'd have strangers (upon seeing our Maryland Tags), jump out of the car and ask us "Where in Maryland are you from?"

Used to scare the @#$@# out of us.. Can you say "Carjacking?"

:)

Never been to New York, but I have to say that your suggestion to give them the finger almost made me pee my pants.

Well maybe you'll feel better about me knowing my husband was born in Queens and grew up in Hewlett until he was 11 or 12, then moved to Florida. His dad lives in Amityville now, and we're probably going to drive up to see him in May. I'm very excited.

My ex has family that live in Smithtown and we visited them once. It was awesome.
