Someone made a comment that occurred to me around the time I hit Publish on my own comment: speaking in public off the cuff can be nerve-wracking, especially when you know your response is going to be televised, viewed by thousands of people, and considered in whether you will be chosen as winner of a pretty big competition.
I hope to God she just freaked out. If that's the case, I know how she feels. I am an expert in opening my mouth with good intentions only to make an ass of myself.
If she has a good attitude, in a couple years she'll be able to laugh at it. "Many U.S. Americans don't have maps... We need to help South Africa and the Iraq." Come on, that's some funny shit.

Sometimes you can't fix stupid. But..I bet she'll make a great trophy wife someday!
